Golf is a motor skill that requires the same kind of discipline it takes to learn karate or a musical instrument. A good foundation must first be established with strong pre-swing fundamentals that originate with a golfer’s grip, alignment and posture. Once each of these fundamentals begins to be implemented through constant repetition, a golfer has laid the foundation to begin working on six other essential skills necessary for improvement. These include: clubface control, impact (strike vs. scoop), swing plane, pivot, effortless club head speed and width.
“As I work with students over time, there is a continual examination of where a student is with the seven essential skills, and which skill, with some work, can best improve a golfer’s game. After spending time with a player, I also like to look at other aspects beyond these fundamentals that can contribute to a player’s improvement in scoring and enjoyment from the game. These include looking at improving the mental part of his or her game, as well as learning the importance of golf fitness.
I believe all golfers can improve if through a disciplined practice plan they correctly implement the right concepts and ideas to shape their game. My goal, and the goal of my students in all we do is to see an improved, more repetitive ball flight, better scoring and ultimately, more enjoyment from the game of golf.”
